The Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly has inaugurated a District Committee aimed at strengthening the fight against HIV/AIDS and improving healthcare support systems within the District.

The inauguration, which brought together key stakeholders and health officials, marks a major step in the Assembly’s efforts to coordinate local HIV/AIDS interventions and promote sustainable support for residents affected by the disease.

Speaking at the event, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Abubakar Sedik, reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to reducing new HIV infections and ensuring health equity across the District. He noted that the establishment of the committee would help improve collaboration among stakeholders and enhance awareness creation, prevention, and care services.

According to Mengisto Opoku Akowuah, District Director of Social Welfare and Community Development, the initiative is being undertaken with support from the Ghana AIDS Commission as part of national efforts to intensify the response to HIV/AIDS at the local level.

Members of the committee are expected to work closely with health institutions, community leaders, and development partners to implement policies and programmes aimed at reducing stigma, increasing education, and supporting vulnerable persons within the District.

Officials at the inauguration emphasised the need for collective action and compassion in addressing the challenges associated with HIV/AIDS, stressing that community participation remains essential in achieving zero new infections.

The Assembly expressed optimism that the committee would play a vital role in promoting healthier communities and improving the well-being of residents across the District.
